Biofuels & You
You may be surprised to know that you may already have used biofuels in your car without even knowing it. Some fuel companies already use a percentage of bioethanol or biodiesel in the fuel that you buy at the pump. There are three important facts for you to know:
• Biofuels are perfectly safe to be used in your car at the levels which will be included from April 15th. They will definitely not damage your vehicle!
• A mixture that includes up to 5% biofuels with 95% conventional fossil fuels in no way affects the manufacturer’s warranty on your car
• Biofuels are better for the environment than fossil fuels
The UK government is committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. In the UK road transport fuels are responsible for around a quarter of these emissions. Using a percentage of biofuels is part of the solution to this problem.
Other countries in the world sell much higher blends of biofuels such as E85, a petrol/bioethanol blend that includes 85% bioethanol, and B30, a diesel/biodiesel blend with 30% biodiesel. There are a few garages in this country selling these higher blend biofuels, but they do require vehicles which have been adapted to use them. More and more car manufacturers are introducing such vehicles to their ranges.
